Monticello recently attended a talk on diversity and inclusion in banking by Malia Lazu, a longtime community organizer and newly named Executive Vice President and Chief Experience and Culture Officer of Berkshire Bank. Malia is currently focused on developing a diversity and inclusion program that could serve as a blueprint for other community banks. Malia shared insights on how the banking industry, especially community banks, can play a leading role in bringing about sustainable change that allows everyone to engage in economic opportunity and help close the racial wealth gap. Banks will need to drive change in order to make this a reality and create a meaningful and sustained cultural shift in the industry.
