The BIP.Monticello team joined Gartner’s New Disruptive and Innovative Digital Business Models discussion to catch up on the constantly changing environment around us! The webinar highlighted how organizations are building compelling business models that disrupt industries and drive customers to move from their current state to a new and innovative product or service.
For example, the customer value proposition model is the most compelling aspect to driving disruption and gaining market share, even more important than legacy customer experience models where firms have traditionally focused. Offering a service at lower cost (even free) or going to market with a physical product cheaper and faster than market standard has the greatest effect. Firms are doing this by 1) accepting lower profit margins and being willing to cannibalize other aspects of their own business, 2) running leaner operations like automated micro factories along with relying on digital solutions such as 3D printing to achieve lower operating costs, and 3) looking for indirect monetization opportunities such as retail brokerage houses offering free trades to customers but directing order flow to a specific market maker in exchange for fees. Focusing on the areas above allows firms to be true disruptors in the marketplace and offer more value to customers.
