Monticello Volunteers to Improve Financial Literacy – Q4 Sessions are Complete!
During the fourth quarter, Monticello employees happily participated once again in financial literacy education courses, developed through a partnership with the High Water Women organization and a public New York City High School, this time in Queens, NY.
This financial literacy program focuses on providing education to low- income youth and adult communities and developing essential financial skills. Learning the fundamentals behind earning an income, taxation, budgeting, savings, the implications of debt, and avoiding predatory businesses helps position students for a more secure financial future. The Monticello team truly enjoyed sharing their knowledge and time with the students and watching them learn!

Moderating the CFA Society New York's Panel on Risk
Monticello’s Joanna Horowitz, CFA, was honored to moderate a thought-provoking panel hosted by the CFA Society New York titled, “Risky Business - Managing Today’s Risk for Tomorrow’s Uncertainty.” The discussion held amongst business leaders of risk management in the financial services industry touched on many topics including risk factors amongst organizations, business continuity risks, DLT and block-chain focused opportunities in digital transactions, and risk cultures. Monticello is aligned with the panelists’ view that effective risk management is a vital part of all financial services businesses future success, which should be addressed and managed proactively. Monticello was pleased to attend the CFA Society New York’s 2018 Annual Dinner at the Mandarin Oriental. At this very well attended event, there was an opportunity to re-connect with fellow CFA charter holders and industry leaders alike, over topical conversations. The Asset Owners discussion was thought-provoking, encouraging ESG impact investing for long-term performance improvement, discussing insights on qualitative versus quantitative investing, as well as overall market views from top managers as we move towards 2019.

Diving into the Crypto-Space: 100 Women in Finance Peer Advisory Group Discussion
Last Thursday, Monticello attended an exciting peer discussion on Crypto-currency and digital assets, led by Bobby Cho, Global Head of Trading – Crytpo at DRW/Cumberland, and Gabor Gurbacs, Director of Digital Asset Strategy at VanEck. The group exchanged ideas on the current and future state of Bitcoin and other investable crypto-currencies, liquidity sourcing, operational risks and auditability of digital asset funds, regulations in the space, and a block-chain focused evolution in our industry. Both speakers shared their thoughts on current valuation and investability of digital assets and the potential impact on the banking sector with this continued growth. Monticello's Fall Team Golf Outing at Neshanic Valley Golf Course
Monticello Consulting Group hosted its Fall Golf Outing at Neshanic Valley Golf Course in Somerset County, NJ last weekend. The event operated in Ryder Cup fashion – pitting New York residents against New Jersey residents. The New York team emerged victorious as Stan Pique and Daniel Ahmad displayed long drives and sharp putting ringing up a string of pars and birdies to close out a tight match in stylish fashion. Cheers to both our NY and NJ Monticello team players on a great day of team bonding and sportsmanship!
Volunteering with Hackensack Riverkeeper for an October Cleanup Day!
As part of our corporate social responsibility, Monticello Consulting Group is highly committed to improving our local communities and preserving our natural habitats. Monticello co-sponsored and coordinated a river cleanup event in partnership with Hackensack Riverkeeper and the regional Environmental Protection Agency. During this event, the volunteers canoed between Oradell and River Edge in NJ to pull waste from the river, collecting plastic, styrofoam, glass, and even a tire from the river. Once collected, the volunteers segregated the waste into recyclable bins on-shore for further handling by local environmental and waste teams. Thank you again to all our employees who participated in this worthwhile event!

Global Citizen Festival 2018 in NYC!
Monticello Consulting Group supported the Global Citizen Festival in NYC as a team to be involved with the impactful discussions and actions focused on empowering people in extreme poverty. The artists and presenters highlighted attention to many topics, which we also care greatly about, including gender equality, reducing the use of single-use plastics, increasing quality education, and ensuring people don’t suffer from preventable diseases globally. We are all Global Citizens, and we enjoyed the opportunity to come together as a firm to get behind these issues!

High-Performance Computing on Wall Street Conference
Monticello team members attended the HPC on Wall Street Conference in NYC, co-hosted by the WIND (Women in Derivatives) organization. Panel discussions on "Blockchain for the Real World" and "Transforming Finance, the Impact of Emerging Technologies" were insightful. Much of the agenda and the fantastic speakers discussed areas of Fintech we have recently covered in our articles and are hot-button topics we consult with our clients on today.
