Conversation on Accelerating Digital Strategy in 2022
The Monticello team attended Gartner’s discussion on Critical Components Needed to Accelerate Your Digital Strategy in 2022. Gartner highlighted the Digital acceleration trends and elevated investments made by companies in the last two years under a global COVID-19 macro environment, based on a Board of Directors survey it conducted recently.
The four critical components included 1) Digital Strategy, 2) Information & Technology Operating Model, 3) Culture, and 4) Technology Foundation. Creating a meaningful and actionable digital strategy is the very first step towards accelerating a digital journey. The other three components are the “enablers” of the digital strategy, focusing on people, process/operating model, and technology pillars in the follow-up execution framework often used in the industry. Companies should optimize and allocate their limited capital and resources based on their current digital enablement landscape and layer on top of it their optimization and transformation initiatives, aligning to their firmwide strategic direction, drivers, and portfolio of programs.

Monticello Kicks Off Year with Change Management Training
Monticello’s newest Change Management Practice area members participated in Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) training this week. Even as experienced Scrum Masters, taking the Certified ScrumMaster training sessions with the Grow-Lean training team offered valuable insights and practical take-aways that can be applied to new and existing Agile teams. Oftentimes, value is discovered and not known in advance. With projects that are complicated, uncertain, or perhaps both, Agile is an ideal framework to apply as it creates feedback loops that enable the team to quickly learn and adjust. A talented CSM creates an environment where self-management flourishes. The Monticello team looks forward to working with our clients to help them adapt and quickly pivot to build plans that drive successful outcomes as we kick off 2022!

Monticello Team Convenes to Discuss the Regulatory Landscape in 2022 & Beyond
As the world transitions to 2022, the continued COVID pandemic and worldwide inflation pose major challenges for the financial services industry. Even with these headwinds, financial firms are still required to address current and pending regulatory challenges. The end of 2021 saw significant milestones, with the bulk of the major LIBOR currencies and tenors ceasing publication, and the go-live of the SEC’s Security Based Swap Dealer (SBSD) rules and the completion of Phase 5 of the Uncleared Margin Rules (UMR). Major regulations like the Standardized Approach for Counterparty Credit Risk (SA-CCR) and the Anti Money Laundering (AML) Act became effective on January 1, 2022 and will need to be reviewed for initial compliance in the first half of 2022. With a Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS) target implementation date set for Jan 1, 2023, the Fundamental Review of the Trading Book (FRTB) is expected to be become a major focus between 2022 - 2024. In addition, several emerging regulations will come into sharper focus for financial firms in 2022. Climate Risk, Operational Resilience and Crypto regulation are top agenda items of global regulators and will trigger new requirements will require the close attention of financial services executives and their teams.

Monticello Team Celebrates Women in Banking
Women are truly redefining the future model of leadership - one where courage, adaptability, empathy, passion and resilience take center stage. Last week, the Monticello team participated in The Most Powerful Women in Banking event hosted by American Banker. Throughout the three-day event, powerful ideas were shared by influential women on the difference the female perspective has and will bring to the industry, especially around financial and social inclusion. A wide range of topics where discussed including ESG, climate risk, diversity, blockchain and digital assets, regulations and policy and creativity in business leadership.
To echo the voice of majority of the women panelists, it is the very soft skills of creativity and empathy that play to the strengths of female leadership to lead their organizations into greater prosperity. The Monticello team looks forward to continuing to support women and diversity within the financial services industry.
